Bill Witte has brought so much attention to our library over the years by underwriting the Witte Lecture Series annually, bringing in many, many notable names as guest speakers. It should be of no surprise that the proposed name is Witte Hall. It calls for the approval of a naming rights donation. The fiscal impact is projected at $469,975 over the three years.Īlso on tonight’s agenda is an amendment to the MOU for the Newport Beach Public Library Lecture Hall. The agreement affects approximately 180 seasonal ocean lifeguards. If approved this evening, the contract will be presented for final approval on September 13th. There are other modifications to the previous agreement that actually expired June 30, 2021. The agreement would expire June 30, 2025, and include a 3% wage adjustment this year, another 3% following Jand again following July 1, 2024. Speaking of our lifeguards, the City Council also has an agenda item tonight to tentatively approve a new three-year wage/employment contract with the Association of Newport Beach Ocean Lifeguards. At the time, he was described in a local news report as a local “landmark, like the Newport Beach pier.” The race’s namesake, Don Burns, was a Newport Beach lifeguard for 47 years, and also taught and coached in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District for 31 years.
